Cure
for the common Rex
|
| Back
in 1990, the closest we got to a performance Pulsar was the cosmetically
enhanced SSS and at the time every second hairdresser was driving
one. The rally bred GTi-R is in another league, but they only built
4500 and for anyone who’s wondered why Nissan never rallied the Skyline,
they did, this is it… the short wheel base version. |

What you get
With
two fewer doors, turbo engine, 4WD,
intercooler and
distinguished by a uniquely massive bonnet scoop, the GTi-R
bears little resemblance to it’s Aussie delivered cousin, in looks
or performance. Fruit? Unless you’ve got the stripped down GTi-Rb
race version, you’ll get,
remote fuel & boot release, central locking, electric
windows and mirrors, reach
adjustable steering column,
vented discs,
alloy wheels and drivers door umbrella
stash. Climate control air
conditioning, ABS
and
viscous coupling limited slip diff are optional.
Black duco standard… other colours very optional, tell us if you
find one.

Driving
and Owning
The GTi-R
blasts to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds and has delimited top speed of
around 220 kph... that’s standard! Due to a lack of factory development
this model never had the opportunity to become a rally hero, but
you can pick up where Nissan left off, the GTi-R is ready for massive
modification for extra horsepower… 700+ is possible. The chassis
is rigid and traction exceptional, with the ATTESA* four-wheel drive
system differentially assigning power to each wheel, tight, wet
corners are a pleasure. A firm ride is transferred through the supportive
bucket seats and there is no danger of your ears missing what the
engine is doing at high revs.

Importdriver's
Choice
For
similar money to the cheapest used WRX you get something with STi
performance. If that is the sort of beast you need, the GTi-R gets
the job done.
