New GT-R?

It looks like a new R35 GT-R will be on sale in 2003, but will no longer boast the rumoured 300kW twin turbo V8. The V8 was to be based on that used in the Nissan Le Mans car: a 3.5 litre, 32-valve, DOHC, twin-turbo, V8 with a alloy block which, in Le Mans form delivered 480kW at 6800 rpm. Sources had said that the departure from the much loved RB26DETT was necessary for the R35 to compete with the next generation of super cars, including a new V8-powered Honda NSX.

The idea of a V8 GT-R has now been diched. Apparently, the R35
will now use a 300kW version of the 3.5L V6 that powers the new Z Car. It seems that the heavier V8 would require a separate GT-R chassis to be developed, something Nissan isn't willing to shell out for.

So,
though it's not an RB, the GT-R retains a twin turbo six after all. The R35 will inherit alot from the R34 expect all the fruit we've come to love be there; SUPER HICAS 4-wheel steering, ATTESA* 4WD and V-TCS** with one interesting option; The standard car will be a 6-speed, but a constantly variable transmission (CVT) may be offered, a box with an tiptronic eight speed function! The more powerful engine and new trasmissions add up to an expected 0-100 time under 4.5 seconds and top speed of 270kph. Who can wait till 2003?
