Toyota
NSCV
"The
NCSV is a distinctly different kind of vehicle. And that's exactly
the point" explained Chief Engineer Takeshi Yoshida.
The
NCSV was originally shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999. Targeted
at drivers in their 20s and early 30s, the NCSV was designed to
break conventional boundaries.
Toyota
said it wanted to give the NCSV a futuristic look and feel. With
its rear cargo door, the has some of the practical attributes of
a three-door hatch. But the steeply inclined A and B pillars, low
ground clearance, 17-inch tires give it the sporty look of a coupe.
Inside,
the driver and front passenger benefit from separate multipurpose
monitors that can display a wide variety of information. Located
on the console between the rear seats is a third, stowable display.
This intelligent interior might in future be used to increase communication
between front and rear passengers, or provide entertainment to help
make long journeys more fun.
A
new direction
in car design, we like it because it is different... The point is,
it's too different to have made it into production.

Supra
Update
In
Issue 2 we brought you news of Toyota's Supra successor and future
flagship, the 5000GT. Now called the "Super Sports", the
evolution of the model continues with several new shapes for consideration.
Toyota's
previous offerings have looked like Mercs, Ferraris, and just plain
uglies, so what about the current lot? Although the latest batch
includes a Lambo-look design, there are indications that Toyota
may finally be drawing on their own models for styling cues.
Testament to this are the MR-S styled headlights of the top design
and the JZA80 Supra lines of the bottom picture. Both suggest that
the Super Sports may look like a Toyota after all.
The
shape though, is perhaps the least exciting aspect of this vehicle.
With Toyota a recent addition to Formula One racing, and the lifting
of the 208kW restriction, a V10 engine seems more than possible.
A mid-mounted 5 litre, 10 cylinder with more than 330kWs, is said
to be planned, with four wheel drive also a good possibility.
A 4WD
V10 Toyota coupe? Would all other road users, please move into the
slow lane.
