It is the work of the designer of the Toyota Echo, who
following Lexus tradition, has borrowed more than just the retractable roof
from Benz. Styling the plush wood and leather clad but modern interior was
the job of Toyota Japan. Shorter and wider, the SC is the replacement
for the Soarer/SC400, but, stretching the friendship, Toyota has also |

| It is suggested, that first
production models will not be V8’s but be powered by a 3.0-litre six, with
170kW and possibly a 250kW turbo version. Whatever the choice of engine,
the SC has handling potential, with 18’ wheels, 245/40ZR18 ‘run flat’ tyres
and the rear wheel drive, double wishbone set up of the current model. In
‘99 Toyota Australia thought it would be selling the New SC by early this
year... now it looks more likely to take to the road in Japan in early 2002. |
